Spiritual Assistant for St. Francis de Sales Fraternity

Sister Carmela Trujillo O.S.F. is a native of Lumberton, New Mexico entered the Sisters of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration in 1949.  Sister Carmela accepted the position of Spiritual Assistant of the Saint Francis de Sales Fraternity in June of 2003.  Sister said that although she has lived and studied Franciscan spirituality since her formation days over 55 years ago her serious rendezvous with Saints Francis and Clare began when she took a six month sabbatical at the Tau Center in Winona, Minnesota, three week residence at a Poor Clare Monastery and the final six weeks spent in Assisi on a study pilgrimage.  During her sabbatical her research and study were focused on the Franciscan sources and the more recent discoveries and interpretations of the writings of Francis and Clare.  She is eager to share her newly discovered knowledge of Francis and Clare and the Franciscan Movement with anyone who will listen.

Sister Carmela has ministered in hospitals of her congregation and in public health institutions, (Indian Health Service).  Sister also taught Medical Information Systems at the University of Albuquerque, NM and at Carroll College in Helena, Montana and served with Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) in the eastern Caribbean based in Barbados West Indies.  Sister Carmela has served on her Congregation's Leadership Council for two terms including serving as Provincial Treasurer.  Presently, besides serving as associate spiritual assistant to the Saint Francis de Sales Fraternity, she is Coordinator of the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Commission of her Saint Joseph Province.
